Our History

History is the genesis, the beginning of all that we know. To understand who we are, we must first understand what has been. With that knowledge we can ascertain what is and what will be.

What concerns me is that everything I know about my home, my country came from self-directed learning. It was not by virtue of the education system that I grew up with. We often hear that in order to make sound decisions we must look at history… to avoid repeating mistakes we made collectively and singularly in our past, we must know what those mistakes were. If our children are our future, we must provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to shape it. It has been, and unfortunately still is our failing as a nation.

I have long believed that our education system should have Canadian history taught until the graduation year so that what is learned is retained and comprehended. Because that is not the case, it is up to the rest of us to provide the lessons that are absent from the classroom. My hope is that the projects I develop will provide incentive to our youth to find out more about who we were, who we are and who we want to be. The projects that I have initiated so far have to do with exploration, specifically centred on David Thompson and his peers. I plan to continue with other historical interests and will share what I have learned via this website.

I hope this inspires as it was intended to… and that those who are inspired inspire others.
