"Thus I have completed the survey of this part of North America from sea to sea, and by almost innumerable astronomical Observations have determined the positions of the places of... this continent."     David Thompson

The Explorations and Travels of David Thompson

As a result of my research into David Thompson's movements in North America, I first set out to develop an all encompassing map. When completed however I found that a map with just routes and dates did not seem to do justice to Thompson's dedication. I therefore decided to add text that would provide an itinerary to his movements.

It did not take long however to realize that the amount of text would inherently require a map too large to produce. It then seemed only logical that the area traveled and explored by Thompson be broken into smaller maps. This would allow for detailed itineraries on each map that would aptly describe his movements. Eventually, three maps were developed, images of which are below.

Within each map are detailed descriptions of travel that are highlighted by way points. Also included is a 3D terrain that will allow people to visualize the terrain that Thompson would travel through in his 27 years in western North America.
