Birplace Distribution of American MLB Players
No sport in the United States evokes more nostalgia among Americans than baseball. With so many people playing the
game as children, it is no doubt why it has become known as "the national American pastime”. Since the inception of
professional baseball in 1876, through the 2010 baseball season, over 17, 200 players have played baseball professionally,
and of those, over 15, 200 were American born ball players. Each one of a series of 4 maps identifies the birthplaces of
these players within the United States. Included within the map are birthplace statistics from a national, regional and
an international perspective. The four maps are divided into the Census Regions of the United States.
